History

  • The Directorate of Museums was earlier under the Directorate of Archaeology & Museum. It was bifurcated on 2nd June 1983 into two Directorates viz; 1. Directorate of Museums and 2. Directorate of Archaeology. The aim of the Directorate of Museums is to collect and preserve scientifically, all the antiquities and art objects of Assam for the future generation.
